Update: June 9th, 2011
Good Day, SWJPagers!
Today, and each day, brings me closer to an important upcoming crossroad! Radiation treatment is now three weeks removed. It has significantly reduced the cough that has plagued me at intervals and enabled me to relax and enjoy the appearance of good health, which may last up to six months according to my doctor. Still, the arrival of summer and some scheduling latitude brings haste to my health situation. Now is the time to act or at least to put a plan of action together against this tumor in my chest that has been the focus of recent worry. Both my radiation oncologist and chemotherapy oncologist willingly continue to help me of course, but my radiation guy can only do so much to begin with and it doesn’t take much to ascertain from a conversation with my chemotherapy oncologist that he is running out of “arrows in the quiver.”
With that in mind, scans come on the twenty seventh and then an appointment with my chemotherapy oncologist comes the next day. After that, we’ll have to decide if we want to follow the plan that the doctor suggests, provided he has a plan. Or, we’ll have to decide if we want to go see more doctors in Indianapolis or Houston maybe. They may have different therapies available, or at least they will have a fresh perspective.
So, the crossroad is quickly approaching and I feel like it will be a crucial one. The tumor in my chest, stunted for the time because of the radiation, will assuredly be on the move in the near future and we need to have a plan in place to control it. It seems to me that getting in front of this tumor in my chest and potentially staying in front of it is much more attractive than chasing a growing tumor and throwing at it whatever we can only in hopes that it may work. Staying in Louisville and getting treatment seems like the later to me while going to IU or MD Anderson seems like the former. That’s the crossroad.
As always, we couldn’t feel more lifted by your love and supportive gestures. I never get tired of talking to good people who wish the best for me and my family. You all have been so vigilant and steadfast in your support, it amazes me how you all still want to know what is going on in my battles against cancer. I continue to see the Lord acting in my life through you all. I trust that He will continue to show me the way, I just have to be willing to see it as such and act accordingly.
God bless,
Will, Katie, and Mack
